You don’t necessarily need to be stood upon rock to rock-fish. Or indeed catch big Ballan Wrasse. Don’t rule out beaches if the right habitat is within casting distance. Especially if there is a resident food source.
From my own experiences, I don’t believe that Ballan Wrasse are 100% territorial. They move around to feed, depending on the season. If there’s an abundance of baitfish, or prawns, or whatever and there’s a habitat that allows wrasse to ambush them – weed or boulders, etc – then it is worth investigating!
