After a brief trial with using fish grips in 2012, I came to the conclusion that fish grips were of limited use for wrasse. Even the biggest Ballan Wrasse are no real threat to fingers (makes you wonder if they do actually rip shellfish off rocks like I’ve read many times). I was looking at fish grips as a possible means to better handle the fish – mainly to reduce the risk of a dropped fish. But with care and confidence, it is possible to carefully handle Ballan Wrasse without a grip. The best fish care items for Ballan Wrasse have proved to be a knotless landing net and an unhooking mat.
